The project area is between the villages of Artesia, Leshibitse and Dibete in the Kgatleng District and to the west of the A1 Highway connecting Gaborone and Francistown cities. Masama West Wellfield is planned to augment supply by an additional 30 000 m3/day to the Greater Gaborone water supply. This would be in addition to the 30 000 m3/day that is pumped into the North South Carrier 1 pipeline from the Masama–Makhujwane (Masama East) Wellfield. As a way of addressing the current water crisis in southern Botswana, groundwater resources have been secured by the development of new wellfields such as Masama-Makhujwane Wellfield. To augment this water demand, MMEWR is additionally developing Masama West Wellfield. The entire wellfield will consist of a total of 33 boreholes that comprise 25 production and 8 monitoring boreholes.
